In 1990, a Japanese game manufacturer SNK released the Neo Geo. Like previous generations, it used game cartridges and had a multi processing engine playing 8, 16, 32 bit games so its graphics varied depending on its game. At the time period, this platform was considered a major console playing arcade quality type games. This advancement pushed the pricetag of this console to $649 when it debuted in America. Although it was never a huge hit like Nintendo, it was popular enough to stay in production until 1997. Games were officially produced for this system until 2004 so the NeoGeo had a fairly long lifespan in the home console industry.
