Classic Atari 2600 Game Consoles

Mint Atari 2600 Game Console for SaleThe classic Atari 2600 game system never gets old for real fans of gaming. The original 2600 system was released in 1977 under the name Atari VCS (Video Computer System) with its iconic woodgrain finish. This classic console's incredible popularity inspired competition in the gaming industry and the creation of many competing videogame companies during the '80s. During their reign as one of the leading manufacturers, the company released several video game systems such as Atari 2600, 5200, and 7800. At the same time, the game company released computer versions of their 8 bit console, called the Atari 400 and 800 systems. Atari tried to challenge Nintendo in the hand-held video game market with its Lynx. Then it attempted to take an innovative step with its 64 bit Jaguar system, however it wasn't able to grab the market away from its competitors Nintendo and Sega. Even though Atari did not achieve the same success of the 2600 with their newer systems, video game fans still have a nostalgic interest in the classic game system.  So if you are one of these Atari fans, browse through these classic video game consoles and shop for the latest bargains available online. Pac Man Atari 2600In 1986, to reduce the cost of manufacturing the Atari game system, the game manufacturer redesigned their popular console. This modified system was unofficially named the Atari 2600 Jr with an updated modern 7800 console case and cheaper electronic components that enabled the company to sell at as a budget home game system for under $50 to consumers. Despite the demise of the original console, the 2600 has been resurrected over the years. In 2004, the company made small plug and play dedicated consoles of the system with several popular games built in rather than requiring the traditional use of ROM cartridges. The new physically redesigned console looked more like the Atari 7800 and called the Atari Flashback. Old and new fans were thrilled with the retro console and it became a popular hit with consumers. Atari then AtGames eventually created six revisions of the system with Atari Flashback 6 released on Sept. 15, 2015.
